With the amount of members running around our club, we thought it would be a great thing to highlight some of the great achievements going under the radar.
First up, we'd love to introduce you to Conor Hosking, from the U16 Mixed team. Conor is currently representing Victoria at the Australian National Bridge Championships. Read a message from Conor below, keep up the good work mate!
"I am currently in Fremantle to compete in a bridge competition called the Australian National Bridge Championship (ANC). Bridge is a fairly complex contract trick-taking card game that generally older people play and the ANC is a nation-wide competition of the states.
I am playing in the Victorian Youth (under 25) Team, with 6 others, and our average age is 13.2. So, all our opponents are older and we (6 boys and 1 girl) are the only youngsters. Our Team Captain and the other Vic team members are keen to develop the Vic Youth squad and have worked hard with us. The other divisions here are the open, seniors and women. The ANC under 25 comp is set out as a triple round robin whereby each team plays the other 3 times over the course of 5 days, with 3 matches a day. Each match lasts 2 to 2.5 hours in which you and your partner play 20 boards (hands of cards) against another pair. How well you play is then compared, as everyone plays the same boards, and calculated as a score.
Currently we have finished playing the second-last day and we are feeling good, but prospects of making the finals are looking slim to none. We are, however, all having lots of fun playing and experiencing Fremantle. We toured the Fremantle Prison yesterday and are looking forward to seeing the statue of Bon Scott (ACDC) soon."
