U16 Shield – The TEM U16 Shield team met Geelong last Friday by the glare from the lights of the oil refinery gas flares. Romantic as that may sound, it was a tight, bruising encounter. Geelong opened, and then TEM countered with Charlotte Kennedy finishing a "pass" from Kobe Dudley (which some say might otherwise be classified as a shot). Geelong scored again and Conor "Bridge" Hosking scored a very timely maiden goal for the season.
In the meantime TEM were dropping like flies, with injuries to several players. A penalty stroke against the run of play gave Geelong the lead and they extended it late in the match to win 4-2. TEM Shield have two games to go. Next week it's Camberwell at home in the late slot. A chance for several of graduating players to finish their junior careers in style with a win over the tangerines.
U14 Girls Shield – The TEM Under 14 Girls Shield team had another great win beating SUHC 3-0 down in Moorabbin on Friday night. The girls are continuing to play some great hockey, with some exciting games left to go!
U14 Girls Pennant – The U14 Girls Pennant went down 5-0 to first placed KBH Brumbies. The girls were defending for the majority of the first half, but with some great tackling and a mammoth goalkeeping effort by Eliza Shrimpton TEM managed to keep the score to 3-0 leading into half time. After a detailed chat the girls went into the second half motivated to limit the attacking play KBH were having through the midfield. Credit to the girls for producing a much better second half effort. Hopefully the team can continue this momentum into the next match when the girls play Camberwell at home.
U14 Shield – TEM U14 Shield team had arguably their best performance of the season against Waverley who were sitting 3rd equal on the ladder. The team played with urgency and had players all over the field step up to play a quality game of hockey. With many dangerous attacking movements TEM looked ominous going forward, however Waverley managed to finish the game 2-0 winners. A great effort from the team!
U14 District - The U14 District team came up against MCC blue. The team was strong from the start with consistent forward pressure, which in the end was rewarded with a corner. Andre Dao stepped up and slapped the ball into the back corner of the goal, getting TEM up to a 1-0 lead. This lead was maintained through to half time and majority of the second half. A lapse in concentration from the team led to free players in the back line and evidently a goal. The score remained the same for the rest of the match with TEM having majority of the play and missing some close opportunities in the circle. Overall there have been some vast improvements in the team.
U12 Shield – What a cracker of a match! A great 4-0 win against Powerhouse - with everyone doing their part to contribute to the victory. The boys played a decent brand of junior hockey - with less prompting required from their ol' nag of a coach! Well done on adapting the play to the instructions given at half-time, and good effort by all to play a complete match without any bench respite. The team sends well-wishes to Gus Simpfendorfer - hope that you get back on the pitch soon!
U12 Girls Shield – The TEM U12 Girls played very well and won 1-0 against Footscray. There were many goal scoring opportunities particularly in the second half, and everyone played their part for the team to result in a fantastic win!
U12 District Tigers – TEM U12 Tigers boys had their best game of the season this week with a 0-0 draw with only 8 field players! The boys held strong throughout the match and had plenty of promising circle penetrations. Bigger and better results to come!
