TEM Juniors Weekly Review #9

The TEM Juniors were back in force this week after an extended break over the school holidays. With plenty of home games, there were some great results from all teams across the board, and it was great to see everyone back playing hockey!

Special mention to the TEM Under 8s who attended a carnival day at Doncaster Hockey Club early Sunday morning, braving some very frosty conditions! Thanks to everyone who helped out to make that event possible.

U16 Shield – The TEM Under 16 Shield team had a frustrating 2-2 draw with West Vic on Friday. TEM led twice, but WV also equalised twice. The TEM side was a touch rusty after the long break, and it was a bit of a lesson about taking your chances when you get them. Next week the team has Altona in the late slot down by the refinery, and everyone will need to lift their game against the #2 team in the grade.

U14 Girls Shield – Under 14 Girls Shield kept their unbeaten run alive running out winners 2-0 against the Gippsland Bulls. They dominated possession and were able to create a heap of scoring opportunities. Definitely unlucky not to score a few more!

U14 Girls Pennant – As this was the team’s second time playing Greensborough they showed much more confidence and strength as a team, highlighting how far everyone has come in such a short amount of time. Sharon Fleischer had her best game yet in the backline, and Flick Edmondson did some great work in goal. The team also had some brilliant circle penetrations by the forward line, especially in the second half, however lost 3-0.

U14 Shield – On Friday night the U14 Shield team came up against KBH, a team who beat TEM 5-2 early in the year. The team came out strong applying great pressure to the ball and scoring an early goal. Lack in concentration and tackling meant TEM went into halftime 2-1 down. Addressing key issues during the break U14 Shield came out and played a fantastic second half eventually winning 3-2.

U14 District- U14 Mixed District were unlucky to finish off with only a draw against Melbourne High at 1-1. The team dominated possession and had majority of the play in the attacking half. After a breakaway and some quick ball movement from Melbourne High, the team went 1-0 down. With persistent pressure on the goals and many shots on target, one eventually went in! TEM was unlucky not to score more goals and can hopefully score more next week against Powerhouse at home.  Warm welcome back to Max Clarke who returned from injury, and thank you to Will Ross who despite being injured still came down and supported his team.

U12 Shield –TEM U12 Mixed had an 8-0 loss to Essendon at MHS, but still went out and fought hard! Mixed results for the U12s this season - winning some matches and also losing some matches. The thing to learn from this is that it doesn't always go your way - but never give up, and most of all....enjoy the bumpy ride!

U12 District Tigers – TEM U12 Tigers had a tough match on Saturday up against the undefeated top team in their grade, MCC. MCC dominated in the first half scoring 2 goals. The TEM boys continued to fight hard however, winning second half 3-2. The final score was 4-3. A hard fought battle by all with the Tigers playing their best game yet. Well done to the team for a great game. Onwards and upwards!

U12 District Lions – The TEM Lions this week had a hard fought 1-1 draw, with plenty of strong passing play and some great defensive team work. A good result given it was the team’s first game back after a long break!
